BLUE SPRINGS — Using the right combination of timely big plays and stout defense, Team Missouri won the 18th edition of the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association Metro Classic on Thursday, June 18, picking up a 10-7 victory at Blue Springs South High.

Fort Osage's Dalton Krysa scored on a 1-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-goal play with 2:14 to play in the first quarter, and Kearney's Matt Slenker added a 21-yard field goal with 3:50 remaining in the third quarter to give Missouri all the points it would need.

Kansas finally got on the board with 5:25 remaining in the game on a 79-yard touchdown run by Bonner Springs' Jeremy Walker, one of the rare plays for positive yardage against the Missouri defense.

The win snaps a two-game losing skid for Missouri, with Kansas now holding a 10-7 all-time mark.

NKC standout found home on the track this spring

There is little doubt North Kansas City High’s Morgan Reid has the talent to earn recognition as the top girls athlete in the Northland. The only lingering question was, in which sport?

While she first stole the spotlight on the basketball hardwood, her late-season performance on the track left little doubt Reid should be the Sun News 2009 Girls Athlete of the Spring.

As North Kansas City High’s Morgan Reid had the second-place medal for the long jump draped around her neck Friday, May 29, she started to wonder if Dwight T. Reed Stadium was a cursed place.

As a sophomore Reid watched Raytown South’s Jade Nalls knock her off the top of the podium in the triple jump on Nalls’ final attempt. Then this year, on the first day of the Missouri Class 4 State Track and Field Championships, Reid watched Jefferson City’s Erin Alewine do the same thing in the long jump.
